If dungeon's existence is relevant to your life/pursuits/whatever and you haven't received an e-mail with updated information, please let me know.

For anyone wondering what happened to the WW weight charts, they were on dungeon. If you have an interest in seeing those, they're also up on Facebook.

For any of you who care about dungeon or any of the domains on that box:

Dungeon has undergone catastrophic RAID failure (read: we're down TWO disks) due to a power outage during the windstorm today.

Right now, she won't boot and no guarantees she'll come back up.

Best backup is from this past Sunday; do not know the condition of the backup drive as of yet, but it'll probably be OK.

If you have a current copy of the ARPS repository, please hang on to it.

More information once I figure out what I'm going to do about this. Right now, I'm going to play Wii and ignore it.

My Yahoo! Mail account was hacked sometime yesterday. If you received any spam from that account, that's the source. Things have since been righted and passwords changed everywhere to make sure (that was fun).

As far as I can tell, they only spammed my addressbook. Stupidly, they also spammed my other e-mail addresses, which was one of the tipoffs. Well, that and one of the odd replies I received and the fact that the account was no longer using the AJAX-based mail client.

So, yeah. Once again, if you have my PRiVATE address, please NEVER use that online. There's a reason I only ever give out my Yahoo! Mail address to Web sites.

This will only affect you if you have an account on dungeon:

On 25 Feb 2008, we are being moved from Verizon Business DSL to Verizon Business FiOS. As part of this change, our IP address blocks will be changing. More information on these details once I have all the details and addresses assigned.

This will require a DNS record change, so there may be a period of time when the network will not be accessible by name. Additionally, there could easily be some downtime as Verizon makes the cut-over.

On the bright side, we're going from a 3M/768k DSL to 15M/2M fiber, so we
should see some distinct speed improvements. Additionally, the problems with the DSL in recent weeks should go away (speed, reliability, etc.). We've been the only one in the CO still on DSL for a bit, but Verizon didn't offer Business FiOS (hence static IPs) until very recently.

As always, drop me an e-mail to root or another address if you have it with any questions, etc.

UPDATE: This is now scheduled for 11 March 2008. Reason: Because it's Verizon and there's no known cure.

"O Foggy One. I give you your letter. In fact, I began this response with it :-)"

So...O. The favorite letter meme-thingie. In no particular order.

1. Open Source Software (nope, not a geek)
2. Owlbears (they're my favorite monster)
3. Otters (cuz they're cute)
4. OpenRoleplaying.org (cheap plug)
5. Oscar (my mother's new cat)
6. Oscar the Grouch (he's one of my heroes)
7. Okra (yes, really)
8. Othello (Shakespeare, not the game)
9. Oreos (nuff said)
10. Orangutans (not as much as Gorillas, but Gorilla doesn't start with O)

Honorable Mention: Orville Redenbacher (cuz I like popcorn)

Level of "love" varies, of course. You just can't love OSS or a Web site as much as a cat or anything made of chocolate.

Dungeon is not down; the server's up fine. The internal network is fine. Verizon, however, apparently isn't speaking to itself internally and didn't pass on funds from Phone Billing to Online Billing. So, the DSL is currently offline. More whenever I know something, but it's an internal Verizon issue that needs to be resolved first.

Update (10/18 @ 1522): We seem to be back online again.

Dungeon is back up and running smoothly again. The "bad" disk seems to be running OK, but we have a new hot spare in place so if/when it starts to die, we should fail over happily.

We had a power outage sometime between 1200-1300 today. Looks like it outlived the UPS. Dungeon seems to have gone down hard.

We're down one disk in the RAID set already, so the machine is hosed until I can put a new one in and rebuild. Luckily, we have one on-hand. Will probably be back up later tonight or tomorrow.

It also looks like the backup drive is fine, so we're still good even in the worst case scenario (it'll just take longer).

Castle is up and running normally and seems to have suffered no ill effects.

Update: Dungeon is currently up. Not sure how long it will stay that way, but it's working OK for now. I was able to run a full backup and it completed successfully. Tomorrow, I'll likely take the thing down, put in the new "hot spare" and hope that it will fail over properly if the disk doesn't die before then.

In the meantime, our DSL is running slow (about 1/3 it's speed). We have an open ticket with Verizon, but it will be a few days. Apparently, we're the only DSL customer left in this area--everyone else is on FiOS, but we can't get the service class we have with fiber.

Good idea: White shorts (I'll let your imagination fill in the blanks there).

Bad idea: Whiteboard markers that smell like "chocolate mint."

Looks like I start the new job at SNiP on Monday (in around 10 AM). Just got off the phone with the new manager (henceforth known as J).

(If you're reading this and you have no idea how I got here and why I'm no longer working for UHG, e-mail me; there were some friends-only posts to cover that, and I know I have some non-LJ readers.)

On the bright side, I'll get two days off to breathe after the UHG Experience.

Yup. It's official. I'm unemployed.

Market still looks good and I have a phone interview in a half hour. Wish me luck.

In the meantime, I'll try not to panic. That really won't help. Right?

So, the news is reporting the White House may be looking for a "war czar" to oversee current operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Don't get me wrong, but isn't this what the Secretary of Defense is supposed to do? Or wait, isn't that the job of the Commander-in-Chief? Or even for members of the Joint Chiefs? 'Cuz, well, y'know, if your current administration can't seem to cut it, what you do is hire someone new rather than clean house. So much for the Republicans running the country like a business. Or, maybe I have that backwards--ever work with that total loser your company won't fire and you have no idea why?

'Course, the fun part is that a number of retired generals have turned down the post for a variety of different reasons.

OK. I'm done now. Scarily, this one's actually like a real blog post or something. I must be losing it.
